Souls’ Day


Soul’s day is one of the important days in the Catholic tradition. In Timor Leste, visiting home village where grand parents and relatives were buried is a very common holiday visit. It is believed that pray for them, giving them a-love-full sweet flowers, lightening their way with candles, and any other rite is to show our sense of loss which we have lost them in real world. According to the tradition, if you do so, you will be blessed and refrained from calamities in your life.  

Most of Timorese are now moving from city to rural, and some are vice versa, come across people from center of Timor Leste “Dili” to West, to East, to South and some are staying during this long weekend. Government released a public holiday for government offices, maybe Dili is quite calm now, less crowd that refresh the air before hectic day on Monday.
