When I heard the homecoming tradition
at the first time, one's regular coming home tradition to visit beloved ones popped into my mind. I guessed it like someone
must be coming back home or something is brought back home. In such occasion,
celebration of happiness is immeasurable; I was right that homecoming
is a unique culture in the American society. It is an infrequent event in which old,
older, and oldest friends are coming to their former universities, towns or
cities that they used to live in and study. I was also told that some alumni
even willing to cross land border and fly over ocean just to attend this yearly
event.
The University of Kansas held this tradition right just a couple of hours ago. First, people paraded along the downtown’s streets; different national flags were waived by their owners, and of course without marching band, it would have never been exciting. Importantly, the so-called Football game was the peak after the parade. If you knew it, Football is the second lovable sports after Basketball or may be other way around.
Today was my first time I went to this unfamiliar game in person. Here, I just want to tell you honestly that I don’t like American football. However, it does not mean I hate it, or I want it wiped from the scene. I had this attitude merely because my heart does not feel good when I watch the players beating and wrestling, and importantly, I don’t see them playing the game artfully like I perceive Soccer. BUT wait! That was just an acute prejudice. Dislike feelings on anything might emerge because we have not known or experienced it.

I found the American football
that is embedded in the Homecoming tradition was interesting. One thing, I got
why spectators were cheering and yelling. They cheered for the players’
precision in throwing and catching the ball; they cheered for the players who
were just super fast in outrunning their rivals and forcefully pushing down the
attackers. These all are common in Soccer ball, too, actually. I, finally,
recognized the similarities and realized that we feel things differently, but
actually they are not so far away.
Another thing that might also be interesting
to you is the cheer leaders. Well, before going further, you need to know that
I, personally, see things in the world as art. This way of thinking has brought
me to admit that beautiful girls are the art of this world. So, they are there
for you to perceive how the life is damn colorful. You see girls are smiling,
dancing, and jumping simultaneously according to the pitch of musical instruments
played by a bunch furry men. They are just ‘awesome or cool,’ the colloquial
language I often use when I lost my English to say the more sophisticated vocab instead. These are what you see
in a campus homecoming game in America.
I talked too much already, but I have
not told you who was beaten in this game. Well, the University of Kansas was
playing against the guest team from The University of Texas. Texas scored 23
whereas the host team which is my Campus got nothing, nil or zero. That was sad,
actually, but I could not help. ;)
Hope this gives you an inspiration.
